I read an article today from Lee Odden. It was an interview he did with Bryan Eisenberg. The article was talking about free seo tools that Bryan would recommend. Some of them are free and some have paid portions so be careful of that. Within the article, he recommended using a tool called InboundWriter in order to help you with your Search Engine Optimization. Apparently, InboundWriter looks at information, such as your Google Analytics (although I still need to figure out if that is true) and lets you know what type of content you should write about in order to make sure you are doing effective search engine optimization.

I am using the free seo tools version, it seems to be working fine as of now. All I had to do was set up the plugin in through wordpress and then register my account with InboundWriter. When you register, they give you two version, the $19.95 per month option and the free seo tools option.

What I am intending to do is publish this post and see if I can see a noticeable increase in visitors to my blog thanks to the search engine optimization tool. I think it is worth reading Lee Odden’s blog. You might find some excellent seo solutions that you can use for your blog and/or business.

Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention, do you see the small button at the bottom? That is the price to pay for the ‘free seo tools’

Let me know what you think.

The writing style, didn’t intrigue me and the examples didn’t give me anything to relate to.

One thing that is obvious from the first few pages, but not the cover is that this book was written specifically for women entrepreneurs. I have absolutely no problem with that concept, apart from the version of the book that I had didn’t mention that anywhere on the front cover.

While it may sound like I hated the book, which is far from the truth, it did give good advice on designing a business that fits with your goals. It talked about how you should create your business with your end goal in mind. This content is valuable; I would have just preferred it to have been presented in a different way. This is a book I would recommend reading first from the library and if you like I then buy it for your own collection.

I would rate this book as a 5 out of 10 stars

book. I liked the fact that this book is instructional while drawing on very real and very recent examples. I liked some of the biographical details as well. If I am being critical, I think that they tried to create a combination of biographical and educational information and it didn’t work out as well as it could have. I wanted to read a little bit more of the biographical details, more of the inspiration and experiences behind the success. When I was reading the instructional content, I wanted more of that too. Overall, I just wanted more. Now that is not to say that the book isn’t good, it is, but I am a very critical person

If you have aspirations of becoming an entrepreneur, I would definitely recommend that you read this book, I think you will learn something from it, I certainly did. In fact, my favorite segment of the book is learning from Ryan’s “Million Dollar Mistakes”. Why make those mistakes if someone already has?

Update: a month after reading the book, I have talked to several people about what I most took away from this book and one phrase sticks out in my mind; “Don’t let anyone steal your milk”.

Read the book and find out what I mean.

I give this book a 7 out of 10 stars

Pull: The Power of the Semantic Web to Transform Your Business is an interesting book. As you can tell by my previous blog posts, I am personally very interested in the internet. It is how I make my living and where I see the future.

This book, gives some very good food for thought. In the future, how will online advertising work, will it be a push system or as in the title of the book, will it be a Pull system? I tend to sit on the fence and say it a bit of both. I d tend to think that Google are already moving towards the Data locker concept as described within the book, but don’t be surprised to see Facebook try something similar. In fact, I very recently came across a personal locker project called SINGly, perhaps this will be the new internet powerhouse?

In terms of the book, I would recommend reading it if you are interested in the internet and the path it may take into the future. I did find some areas a little bit difficult to read, but overall it was very good.

I give it a big 7 out of 10.

I have been thinking about this recently and wondering why I am not taking more risks, both personally and professionally. Looking back, I think the best things that have happened in my life came about because of me trying something new. In 2002, I decided that I was going to go and get a degree. I had no plans other than i wanted a marketing degree and I wanted to live abroad for a while. In 2004, I took a risk and moved to NAU (Northern Arizona University). While there, I met my future wife. In 2008, I moved to the US permanently.

All of these decisions were risky but they proved to be amazing choices. Now, i have been fortunate in that the majority of risks that I have taken have worked out, but there is something inside me that wonders why I am not taking more risks.

i came across this post by David Meerman scott entitled When failure is cheap, why not give it a go?.

I really like this blog post and I would recommend reading it and visiting his blog for other excellent insights.

I have had several people ask me what it takes get my business listed online, especially for local businesses. I saw this post from Todd Mintz over at Search Engine Journal (http://www.searchenginejournal.com/get-listed-so-you-can-get-found/28398/)

HE gives a list of three things and I would recommend that you follow these items when starting with your local SEO.

The three super duper local listing strategies:

Claim your Google Places Page

Optimize the heck out of it (without spamming)

Get people to leave reviews (on the Google places page and also on other sites such as Yelp).

There it is 3 simple items….. In my next 3 blog posts, I will give suggestions and instructions on how to do each of them.

I was reading a short blog post on Searchengineland it was talking about how Google are now using your latest tweet as the snippet in search. I thoguht this was interesting mainly because it shows the need to be very mindful of what is said in your twitter account. Can you imagine if someone is searching for you and the tweet that comes up contains profanity or something unsavory?

This is especially important for people that can be seen as representing a company. So please bear that in mind the next time you bash Obama or talk about what you did last night.

I will be their Interactive Marketing Manager. I have had a very good run at Sitewire and I will miss them a lot. But I am excited about the opportunities that await me.

So, this was just meant to be a short post to talk about this new change and the new challenges that await me as I have moved clientside. Let me know if you have any tips about making the change.

Derek Halpern does a very good job of taking psychological triggers and using them in the online space.

Why do I like this blog?

There are two main reasons:

Simplicity

Specific Examples.

Both of these bullets are key to me and how I think. I do not like to hear things being overcomplicated. Just tell me how it is. Secondly, I don’t learn well by reading long lists of mumbo jumbo. Give me examples and let me see how I can apply this to my business.

Social Triggers gives me ample servings of both of these and as an online marketer I feel that this should be something we should ensure that we are doing for our clients. Both in terms of how we promote their service or product, but also in how we report our performance back to them.

What do you think of Social Triggers?

Let me know.
